Trending Popularity Of Audio Books

It wasn't that many years ago when the only options available to readers of a book was to actually purchase the text itself from a bookstore. As time went on, the books became available on the internet - and this was a revolution in the distribution of knowledge itself. However, shortly after this, publishers realized that if books should be sold in digital format, so too could audio books (dictated versions of books). In fact, the internet was decided upon as the best medium of transfer for these "revolutionary" new books - as the immediate sale and delivery could take place without human intervention.

We have come so far since those days, and now - thanks to the continuing development of the internet and the electronic world surrounding and facilitating the sale of audio book, the new format is more popular than ever. In possibly the biggest break that the audio book industry has seen so far in its life, the ITunes store began making audio books readily available to consumers just a few years ago. By integrating the sale of audio books in to its online platform, users are now able to purchase these in exactly the same way as they would purchase music or video.

The Future Of Audio Books.

Given the huge success of audio books thus far (not just for text based alternatives, but also for businesses and corporates), it would be of no surprise that the industry continues to grow in the future. As far as we can see, the following two situations could pan out:

1. Continued & Sustained Popularity Growth.
2. Flat-lining of Growth, With Diversification.

The first route here would basically indicate more of the same. Perhaps given that the audio books industry is past its major growth phase, the rate of further expansion may take a small hit. However, this could potentially be counteracted by the release of a broader range of audio books to the market.

The second option here is equally as likely. Because of the heightened awareness and selling pressures given by the current economic crisis, consumers may close their wallets to these types of audio book products, and hence a flat-lining of sales would be seen. Whilst in the short term, this would affect the overall profits of audio book publishers - the long run would probably see a return to the standard sales patterns.
